Joshua's 2 Year Old Stats

We went to see Dr. Bloom for Joshua's 2 year well child visit the week after his birthday. I still need to do a long overdue post about all that he is doing right now, but he's doing so much that it's hard to keep up with. He is a smart, sweet, and healthy big boy. Here is how he measured up at his appointment:

Weight: 29 lb (65th percentile)
Height: 36 in (80th percentile)
Head Circumference: 19.5 in (75th percentile)

I asked Dr. B about the old saying that if you double your height at 2 years old you can figure out what your adult height will be. She said that's pretty much true! Derek still doesn't quite believe it because Joshua's mother isn't even 5 feet tall...ha! Looks like I may not have cursed my son after all, but I guess we won't find out for sure for another 18 years or so. Let's hope baby brother will be the same way.

18 Months Old

Joshua,
You are 18 months old now. You seem so grown up to your daddy and me. Everyday you impress us with something new you've learned. One of our favorite things you do is chant our names. We also love it when you yell out "BBBBBUUUUUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSSS" every day in the car when you see a bus! We love your zeal for life! You are so pure and innocent about the things of this world. You share your emotions with us about exactly how you're feeling about something. Sometimes that's not so fun for us. You have definitely started throwing temper tantrums. You fling yourself onto the ground and roll around all the while screaming at the top of your lungs. Many times these tantrums are for no reason in particular....at least that we can figure out. I'm learning to just laugh about them and learning to enjoy this stage that you're in. It's normal behavior for a toddler your age, and we are so very thankful you are developing how you should be and are healthy. Joshua, you are still the joy of our lives! You put a spring in our step every single day. I wake up every morning thanking God for another day to be your mommy. I love you baby boy!

We went to see your doctor the other day for your 18 month check up. She said that you look great! Here are your stats at 18 months old:

Weight: 25 lbs 7 oz (45th percentile)
Height: 33.5 in (80th percentile)
Head Circumference: 19 in (60th percentile)

Here are a few things you've been up to lately:
-still a great eater....you eat just about everything we give you....bananas are still your favorite!
-still love balls....you can throw a ball really far (been doing this for quite a while), you can kick a ball, you can shoot baskets in your new basketball goal
-talking like crazy....every day we discover a new word you know.....you are starting to put words together (for example....bye bye mommy, night night daddy)
-LOVE busses and trucks.....and you have a ton of these around our house to play with......one of your favorite trucks is a monster truck Ashley gave you for Christmas that zooms across the floor with cool sound effects and beeps when it backs up....you have started saying beep beep when you drive any of your trucks backwards now
-love George......he is your Curious George stuffed animal that Ashley (apparently she gives good gifts) gave you when you were just a little baby last year.....he sleeps with you every night and goes many places with us.....you can call him by name which is super cute!
-love sitting at your little table we gave you for Christmas....there is usually a stuffed friend sitting in your other chair (George or Bailey bear), and you can very often be found sharing a snack with that friend
-Dancing!!......you LOVE LOVE LOVE to dance!!
-can jump off the ground.....you have been trying to jump for a long time but have just in the last few weeks started getting off the ground when you jump....I love your determination!
-are a good listener.....you have your moments, but for the most part you listen to us and others very well
-give bear hugs!!!.....these are some of mine and daddy's favorite things EVER!!......you wrap your little arms around us and squeeze us tight and give us a little pat on the back......oh my how I want to bottle that up and keep it forever!
-can recognize many people by their picture.......YaYa, Grandma, GaGa, Mommy, Daddy, Grace and Ayden are some of the most frequent ones
-can say quite a few animal sounds.....a few animals include dog (ruff ruff), duck (tuack tuack), cat (yow), cow (moo or boo)
-love to read books and have them read to you......you usually must turn the page when mommy is reading you a story
-this age is so much fun....we are absolutely loving everything we get to do with you right now!!!

(Like always, I'll probably have to update this list b/c there are always things I think of later.)

Joshua, we just want you to know how much we love you and are so very thankful for each day that we have you! We praise the Lord for picking us to be your mommy and daddy. I don't know what we did to deserve such a sweet little boy!

15 Months....Whoa!

I say this every time I blog about Joshua, and I'll say it again......

My baby is growing up way too fast! Where has the time gone?

Joshua turned 15 months old on Monday. We had his well check up on Tuesday. Here are his stats at 15 months:

Weight: 23lbs 14.5 oz (less than 50th percentile)
Height: 32.5 in (90th percentile.....oh my!.....where in the world did that come from?!!??)
Head Circumference: 18.5 in (50th percentile, but seriously, it has to be bigger than that)

What is he up to at 15 months? I'm glad you asked.

-He is talking a lot more. Some words include ball (ba), mama, dada, bus (bu), hat, shoes, teeth, car, truck, boat, cat, dog, bye bye, juice, banana (nana), cracker. (I'll add more as I think about them.)
-He signs "more" for everything. It's the only sign he'll do now. So when I say everything, I mean everything.
-He can wave bye bye.
-He can point to some of his body parts, including toes, teeth, ear. When we ask him to point to his nose he always points to the right side of his head behind his ear. When we ask him where his head is he pats the top of his head and says "hat".
-He constantly shakes his head no, whether he means yes or no.
-His favorite food is still banana. He LOVES him some banana.
-Lately he has had an obsession with juice. He calls milk, water, or juice all juice. And the way he says it is adorable.
-He is a great walker, and runs quite a bit now.
-He has started to climb, or try to climb, on all kinds of things and furniture.
-He loves loves loves to be outside.
-His favorite toy at the playground is the slide. That kid is a slide fanatic! He doesn't really care for the swing much anymore.
-He loves to put things into boxes or buckets. For example, he has a big plastic pumpkin bucket he plays with right now, and every time I go to pick up his toys there is some toy or thing he's found around the house in it.
-Balls are still a favorite toy.
-He loves to hide from us and then peeks out to see if we're watching. It's so cute!
-Boxes are another favorite toy. The other day he pushed around an empty diaper box for hours. He would move it from one place to another, get in it and sit down, and then climb back out and do it all over again.
-He has the cutest and sweetest laugh ever. You can't help but laugh or smile when he starts laughing about something.
-He loves to brush his teeth, and often requests to do so several times a day.
-He can follow some simple commands. For example, when we ask him to bring us his shoes, he will do so. Or if we ask him to go get in the bath he'll walk to the tub and wait for us (except sometimes he tries to climb on in so we have to be on our toes). If it's time to eat I'll ask him to go to his high chair. He'll go get his plastic bib that's hanging up and go wait by his high chair.
-His hair still sticks straight up on the back part of the top of his head. I love it!
-He sleeps 11 to 11.5 hours a night and naps for about 2 to 3 hours a day. His bedtime is still 7:30, likes it's been for the last year, but I think we're going to try and push that back until 8:00 soon. He wakes up each day between 6:30 and 7:00. We would like to get him to sleep in a little later, or at least until 7:00 every day. Plus, he seems ready (most days) to stay up a little later. We'll see how it goes.
-His personality is so cute and so fun. It's hard not to have a good time when you're with him!
-He is still such a joy and a blessing in our lives! We simply couldn't imagine life without him. He is certainly one loved little boy!

I just had to add this picture b/c it shows just what a nut he is. He loves these slippers and insisted on wearing them around the house one day when it was hot as all get out outside. (Also, notice the empty diaper box behind him. This was one day where he pushed it around and climbed in and out of it about 50 times.)

(*I'm sure I'm forgetting something, so this post may be updated at some point.)

12 Month Stats

I took Joshua to see his doctor for his 12 month well baby check up on July 14th. This was definitely his least favorite visit to date as he seemed to be so much more aware of what was going on. He did awesome though, while getting his finger pricked/squeezed and while getting three shots. Poor guy. Babies go through a lot. He was still a healthy little (or should I say big) guy, and for that we are so so thankful! He's reaching all of his milestones and growing up so fast! Here are his stats at 12 months:

Weight: 22 lbs 2 oz (48th percentile)
Height: 30.5 in (75th percentile....yay!! he's staying up there.....I'm hoping I didn't make him short)
Head Circumference: 18.25 in (49th percentile...although I think he has a big head and that percentile should be higher since his hats don't fit him so well!)

Thank you Lord for our healthy, growing, happy baby boy! He is such a joy!

9 Months Old

Where has the time gone? My tiny baby is not so tiny anymore.

Joshua turned 9 months old on Sunday! We had his 9 month doctor visit yesterday. He didn't get any shots, but he did have to get his finger pricked and squeezed for another hemoglobin check. His number came back at a 10.5, which is the lowest it can be on the normal range, so he doesn't have to take his iron supplement anymore! He was NOT a fan of the finger prick/squeezing, but all in all he did really well and was a sweetie as usual for the doctor and nurse. Here are his 9 month stats:

Weight: 19 pounds 14.5 ounces (48th percentile)
Length: 28 3/4 inches (75th percentile)
Head: 17 3/4 inches (48th percentile)

He has actually lost some weight and feels lighter when we pick him up. This is because he's had a little stomach virus and let's just say we've changed a lot of dirty diapers in the last week.

Joshua is just as sweet and cute as ever! He started saying "ba" for ball on Sunday, and he knows exactly what he is talking about! It's so cute! Balls are definitely his toy of choice! He still isn't saying any mommas, but he is (we think) saying yaya for dada. He actually put the "d" sound on it a few times when we were at the beach. He is still only pulling up to his knees, but with just a little help from us he can go from his bottom to his feet without a pause! He can stand and hold onto anything for a good while before his legs get tired. We've gotten out one of his walking toys and are letting him get a feel for it. He isn't taking any steps behind it yet, but I'm sure it won't be long. We are also in the process of transitioning him to more solids/table food, too. The boy loves to eat! One of my favorite things he has been doing for about a month now is giving us hugs. It is so so sweet! He also gives us open mouth kisses! They're awesome but messy...ha! We love him so very much, and it's nice to get something in return from him when we hug and kiss on him!

Six Month Stats

Joshua did great at the doctor today. He was all smiles and giggles for the nurse and doctor. The doctor thinks he looks great and is meeting all of his milestones! He let out a brief scream when each of the FOUR shots were stuck in his poor legs but then returned to his normal self....except maybe a little less active. Here are his stats at 6 months:

Weight: 17 lb 1 oz (50th percentile)
Height: 27 3/4 in (80th percentile)
Head Circumference: 17 1/8 in (40 - 50th percentile)

He's still as cute as ever!

4 Month Stats

Look at me....posting this on the day of Joshua's appointment!!

He was a sweet sweet boy while we were at the doctor. Many people commented on his cuteness, and I have to agree! He is the most adorable little guy I've ever seen!! Everything went great at his appointment. He is healthy and is growing a lot! The doctor couldn't hear his heart murmur that she heard at his 2 month appointment, so that was an answer to prayer. Here are his stats for 4 months (plus a week):

Weight: 15 lb 5.5 oz (about 60th percentile)
Length: 25 3/4 in (about 75th percentile)
Head Circumference: 16 1/2 in (about 50th percentile)

He screamed and his face turned bright red when they gave him his shots. Poor guy. He cried for maybe 5 minutes afterwards and then went to sleep on the way home. This afternoon he has been doing pretty well....even smiling and talking to mommy some!

I'll leave you with a picture of my cutie....

Three Weeks Old

Joshua will be 3 weeks old tomorrow! Time is flying by, and he is growing up so much already. We spend most of our days and nights eating a lot and sleeping a little. He is a good and very sweet baby. We really enjoy having him around! He has had lots of visitors since we've been home and is loved by so many people.

At his 2 week appointment on Monday he was already up to 7 lbs. 6 oz. and measured 20 1/2 in. long. He's in the 15th percentile for weight and the 40th percentile for height. He's learning to hold his head up some and staying awake more each day. Be sure to check our flickr page often for up-to-date pictures.....that will probably be updated more than the blog. It's time to eat again so this sleepy mommy must go for now.
